Evaluating Reimbursement Dossiers for Australian Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC)
Macquarie University Centre for the Health Economy
10/16-11/20

Health Technology Assessment (HTA) dossiers submitted for local reimbursement and pricing decisions to the Australian Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) were evaluated in collaboration with a cross-functional team. The clinical and economic evidence presented in the submissions was analyzed.
Quantification of Costs for Shared and Specialist-Led Cancer Care Models in Australia
Menzies Centre for Health Policy - The University of Sydney
5/15-8/15

Data was obtained to estimate the costs associated with general practitioner (GP) shared care and specialist-led models. Various elements of care delivery for patients receiving shared and specialist-led care were described. Markov and financial budget impact models were constructed in Excel to analyze the economic implications of care approaches. Costs were estimated from the perspectives of patients, service providers, and the government. Additionally, scenarios were developed to explore the potential national cost impacts of different relative uses of shared care versus specialist-led models, informing future healthcare planning and policy decisions
Economic Evaluation of Forest Industry Projects
Forest and Wood Products R&D Corporation
5/12-8/12

Economic evaluation of Australian forest and wood-product industry research.
High Risk Human Research Ethics Committee
University of Sydney
11/15-04/23

Ross was a member of the University of Sydney's high risk human research ethics committee for seven years which reviews randomised clinical trial and observational research protocols to protect the mental and physical welfare, rights, dignity, and safety of human participants of research and the safety of those conducting research
Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) Assessment for MSAC
Royal Australasian College of Surgeons
11/19-1/20

Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) is a procedure used to remove early-stage cancers and precancerous growths from the digestive tract lining. It is considered a less invasive alternative to surgery for conditions like Barrett's esophagus and colorectal cancer. The Medicare Benefits Schedule Review Taskforce proposed new funding options for EMR, emphasizing its safety, effectiveness, and potential benefits over traditional surgery. A Markov model and budget impact analysis was undertaken prior to listing of the procedure on the MBS
Economic Analysis for National Mental Health Commission in Australia
KPMG Health, Aging and Human Services Practice
9/14-12/14

Formulated optimal cost pathways for mental health treatment using Markov modelling. Pathways were developed for Anxiety, Anorexia, PTSD, PND, Bipolar Disorder, and Schizophrenia for the National Mental Health Commission in Australia
Costing Analysis of Hunter and New England Needle and Syringe Program (NSP)
NSW Health
04/12-08/12

The overall aim of this research project was to identify which needle syringe program (NSP) service delivery model is most effective in improving the health and wellbeing of people who inject drugs, with specific reference to hepatitis C. Key models investigated in the report included vending machines, secondary outlets and primary fixed outlets in northern, southern and lower mid north coast regions of NSW. Costs were specified for staff, goods and services and managed; and presented on unit cost basis
Assessment of Deep Brain Stimulation of the Thalamus for the Treatment of Severe Refractory Epilepsy for MSAC in Australia
Royal Australasian College of Surgeons
05/21-09/21

Deep brain stimulation delivers electrical impulses to a key central location deep in the brain, suppressing the bursts of epileptic discharges that characterise seizures. Ross was contracted to undertake economic modelling and budget impact assessment for MSAC assessment.
Costs of Weeds in Australia
Centre for Invasive Species Solutions
10/18-2/19

Estimated the national costs of control and lost production in agriculture due to weeds in Australia. Considered the RD&E options outlined in the draft Ten-Year CISS Weeds Investment Plan and provided best estimates of the returns on investment for each of the domains and for investment in the plan overall. Economic Evaluation of Bio security Research Projects in Australia
Australian Bio security Cooperative Research Centre
05/09-08/09

Cost-benefit models were developed, and a report was prepared to document the economic evaluation of projects within the research center’s portfolio. This evaluation focused on four key elements: developing more cost-effective tools and systems for disease detection and surveillance; transferring knowledge and technologies to public health, environmental, and community sectors by enhancing national and international collaborative linkages and networks within Australia and the Asia-Pacific region; and equipping researchers, professionals, and community members with the necessary knowledge and skills to respond effectively to emerging infectious disease threats. The report provided insights into the economic implications of these initiatives
